Sat Nav. and google map generally take you direct to Belair in Whitehead.  The instructions below explain how to get to Whitehead. Final instructions are send to you once a booking is made. 


By car we are approximately:

  • half hour from Belfast City Airport 
  • 45 minutes from Belfast International Airport 
  • 20 minutes from Larne Ferry Terminal 
  • half hour from Belfast Ferries. 
  • 2 hours 30 minutes from Dublin (Airport) 


If taking public transport, then take it is a case of getting to any Belfast Railway Station and changing onto the Belfast Larne Line which is 35 minutes to Whitehead. Note that Belfast Europa Bus Centre is beside Belfast Great Victoria Street Railway station. The train ride between Belfast and Whitehead is very picturesque.


  • a bus and/or train from Belfast City Airport with one change in Belfast which takes just over an hour 
  • a bus and then train from Belfast Internal Airport is 1 hour 45 minutes. 
  • the ferry in Larne accommodates the train service and is just 19 minutes.

Directions from Belfast City Airport

By Car or Bus/Train or Taxi

  

By Car (31 minutes) 

At Belfast City Airport, head north-east, this means going under the Sydenham By-Pass/A2 and direction Belfast. 

  • Once merged onto Sydenham By-Pass/A2 head follow signs to M2/M5/M1/M2. 
  • Continue onto M2 following signs to Whiteabbey/Carrickfergus. 
  • Keep right, following signs M5 direction Whiteabbey/Carrickfergus. 
  • Leaving the M5 at roundabout take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At next roundabout, take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At roundabout in Carrickfergus, take 2nd exit (Carrickfergus Castle in on the right). 
  • 5.5 miles to go! There is a distinctive corner (Bla hole) and the village of Whitehead lies below on the right. 
  • Turn right into Whitehead (Cable Road). 
  • Following directions (From Cable Road) that have been sent to you. 


By Train (59 minutes including changing in Belfast Central) 

There is a short walk (or courtesy bus) to Sydenham Train Station. Take the train to Belfast Central Station (7 Minutes). 


Connect to the Belfast->Larne line. 


This train takes you to Whitehead Railway Station directly (35 minutes). 


Leave Whitehead Station on the land-side. Following directions (From Train Station) that have been sent to you. 



By Bus (1 hour 4 minutes changing in Belfast Great Victoria Station). 

You may opt to take the bus from the Belfast City Airport to Belfast Great Victoria Street. 


Change at Belfast Great Victoria Street to the Train. The train journey is spectacular and other countries would charge you a scenic route cost!


Connect to the Belfast->Larne line. 


This train takes you to Whitehead Railway Station directly (35 minutes). 

Leave Whitehead Station on the land-side.

Directions from Belfast International Airport

By Car (45 minutes) 

At Belfast International Airport, head south onto Airport Road. The roundabout at the entrance of the Airport has a large car parking facility called McCausland’s which is a good landmark. Leave that on the left. 


  • Continue on A57. 
  • There are numerous roundabouts for 6 miles. Stay on A57 direction M2. 
  • Take the 1st exit at the next roundabout onto the M2 slip road with direction Belfast. 
  • Exit the M2 at Junction 1, exit towards Shore Road/Docks N.Seaport/Stena Line/Norfolkline. 
  • At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto M2 slip Road and keep right onto the M5 marked Carrickfergus. 
  • Travel the short distance on M2 (back tracking) and merge onto M5 signposted Whiteabbey/Carrickfergus. 
  • Leaving the M5 at roundabout take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At next roundabout, take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At roundabout in Carrickfergus, take 2nd exit (Carrickfergus Castle in on the right). 
  • 5.5 miles to go! There is a distinctive corner (Bla hole) and the village of Whitehead lies below on the right. 
  • ·Turn right into Whitehead (Cable Road). 
  • Following directions (From Cable Road) that have been sent to you. 


By Bus (1 hour 45 minutes including change at Great Victoria Street) 

The bus takes you straight into the Belfast Europa Centre. It is the same location as the Belfast Great Victoria Street Station (40 minutes). 


The scenic train route (35 minutes) is too good to miss to Whitehead but you could take a bus too.

By Car (20 minutes) 

Head South West towards Olderfleet Road and at the roundabout take 4th exist onto Harbour Highway. 


  • At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the Harbour Highway
  • Turn right towards A2 (signs for A2)
  • At circular Road Roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A2
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on A2
  • Stay on the A2 for 8.6 miles 
  • Turn left onto Slaughterford Road. 
  • Following direction (From Slaughterford Road) that have been sent to you. 

By Train (19 minutes)

The ferry accommodates the train service with a station at Larne Ferry Station. It is on a direct line to  Belfast (Belfast->Larne line). This train takes you to Whitehead Railway Station directly (19 minutes). 


Leave Whitehead Station on the land-side.

By Car (28 minutes) 

Head south-west towards W Bank Road, continue 0.8 miles, W Bank Road turns right into Dargan Road. 

  • At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the M2 slip road. Travel the short distance on M2 and merge onto M5 signposted Whiteabbey/Carrickfergus. 
  • Leaving the M5 at roundabout take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At next roundabout, take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At roundabout in Carrickfergus, take 2nd exit (Carrickfergus Castle in on the right).

By Car 

  • Head to Belfast on the motorway / dual carriageway. 
  • Join the M1 at Lisburn. 
  • The M1 becomes the Westlink through Belfast and then go straight onto the M2 signposted The North. 
  • Keep right and merge onto M5 signposted Whiteabbey/Carrickfergus. 
  • Leaving the M5 at roundabout take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At next roundabout, take 2nd exit direction Carrickfergus. 
  • At roundabout in Carrickfergus, take 2nd exit (Carrickfergus Castle in on the right). 
  • 5.5 miles to go! There is a distinctive corner (Bla hole) and the village of Whitehead lies below on the right.

By Public Transport 

Travel by bus to Belfast Europa Bus Centre (end of line) or by train to Belfast Great Victoria Street (end of line).  The bus centre is beside the train station called Great Victoria Street.
